ALCALÁ 33

PHOTOVOLTAIC skylight

Onyx Solar has manufactured Photovoltaic Glass for the main Photovoltaic Skylight for the rehabilitation and reform of this historic building built in 1900 at 33 Alcalá Street, Madrid.

The installation is composed of 12 units of Amorphous Silicon Photovoltaic Glass with high transparency degree to maximize the entry of natural light. Each glass module measures 2,438x1,160 mm and has an air chamber.

In total, this 34 m2 Photovoltaic Skylight will improve the efficiency of the building by producing clean energy and by improving the insulation of the building, and also filtering the harmful rays of the sun.

This iconic building is located within the Villa de Madrid Historic Complex, an Archaeological Protection area, and therefore has a level of protection that requires the restoration of elements such as the exterior facade, the staircase and the portal.

Reny Picot, an international firm of the dairy industry, has chosen an emblematic property located in the heart of Madrid, to be used entirely for the new headquarters. The works consist of the functional recovery of the building declared in ruins in 2005 and its enhancement as a characteristic architectural element of the urban façade of that section of Alcalá Street, an action designed by the architecture studio Díaz & Díaz Architects.
